To mark this year’s Carers’ Week (11-17 June), Forward Carers have launched Working for Carers – a new scheme to help organisations in Birmingham identify and better support staff who are also carers.
Perks of the Working for Carers scheme include access to a library of downloadable resources, online training for staff and the opportunity to attain ‘Outstanding Employer’ accreditation.
For many businesses, the main benefits include enhancing their employer brand, with additional positive press and PR opportunities, whilst improving wellbeing in the workplace.
Forward Carers CEO Simon Fenton said:
“Nearly 1 in 8 employees care for a loved one at home, and nearly three-quarters give up work or reduce their hours because of the stress of juggling work with care. We want to encourage employers to recognise the vital role of carers and how valuable they are to their workforce.
“Working for Carers not only benefits employees but also benefits employers, as it can lead to higher staff retention, better morale and reduced absence at the same time as enhancing the organisation’s reputation.”
Headway Birmingham & Solihull and Age Concern Birmingham are two of the first organisations to sign-up to the scheme.
