The highest accolade any voluntary organisation can aspire to is The Queens Award for Voluntary Service. Allied to this award is the awarding of individual honours – MBE, OBE, CBE and higher -for the most deserving.
We all know organisations, and people who drive those organisations, many of whom have given their life to the most wonderful causes, making the world a better place for all of us. But are they getting their full and proper recognition? Time for action!
It is so easy to nominate a person or a voluntary group. On line nominations can be completed simply and without fuss. The call is out NOW! The application period is open until 13 September 2019 but don’t leave it until the last minute.
Why not attend one of the presentations given by The West Midlands Lieutenancy where you can learn about the awards and how to nominate others, or your own organisation. You can chat to Lieutenancy staff who will be willing to give you any guidance you may need. You’ll find the dates, times and venues at the end of this blog. You can visit the Lieutenancy website for more information too.
The Queens Awards for Voluntary Service are equivalent to an MBE, but for organisations rather than individuals. Highly prestigious and a recognition of excellence, they say a lot about the winning organisations. You can put the glass award on display and permanently show the winners logo on your letterhead. Previous winners all comment on how it lifted their profile and reputation making fundraising and finding partners easier – not that these things are ever easy so anything that can help!
What we do here, in the West Midlands, is better than most but we are keeping too quiet about it. If you are not nominated, you cannot be recognised. Come on folks let’s tell the world just what we do and how good we are at doing it.
QAVS Birmingham Events will be held at Aston University on 2 May and 4 July from 5.30pm. Please contact Bernie@wmlieutenancy.org to register and obtain full venue details.
